Fort Harrison gets first COVID-19 vaccine doses

12/23/2020 10:00 AM The Fort Harrison VA Medical Center received its first shipment of the Moderna vaccine at around 8 a.m. this morning. The MTVAHCS will begin distributing the Moderna vaccine today. “Montana VA Health Care System is excited to have our first shipment of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for our health care personnel and our Miles City community living center residents and staff,” said Executive Director, Dr. Judy Hayman. “For over nine months, our healthcare teams and Veterans have adapted time and time again to meet every new challenge during the pandemic. That said, we must remain vigilant the pandemic is not over. Starting today though, we are going to celebrate that the arrival of the vaccines mark the next phase towards ending the pandemic. As our vaccine supplies increase, our ultimate goal is to offer COVID-19 vaccination to all Veterans and employees who want to be vaccinated.”

According to a release, the shipment of the vaccine arrived right around 8 a.m. Courtesy: Montana VA Health Care System VA officials say it will begin administering the vaccine within several hours of its arrival. The Moderna vaccine requires two doses to be administered 28 days apart to be effective. The vaccine s manufacturer says it is about 94 percent effective. As vaccines become available for more groups of veterans, MTVAHCS care teams will contact eligible veterans to schedule vaccinations. There is no need to preregister or come to a facility to sign up.

New VA outpatient clinic set to open in Havre next month By: MTN News and last updated 2020-12-22 10:11:17-05 GREAT FALLS — The Montana VA Health Care System (MTVAHCS) announced on Monday that that the new Merril Lundman VA Outpatient Clinic will open in Havre next month. The new site at 1753 US Highway 2 NW, Suite 3, will open its doors on January 20, 2021. The new site provides more than 3,000 square feet of space which increases the clinic size by almost 300% compared to the previous clinic (1,136 square feet). “We are excited to provide Havre area Veterans a clinic that is only the second in Montana to be designed entirely around the VA’s Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model,” said Executive Director Dr. Judy Hayman in a news release. “It has been a MTVAHCS priority to provide integrated and streamlined care in Havre and the new PACT-designed Merril Lundman VA clinic makes this possible.”
