Great Canadian, Apollo Revise Sale Terms | Standardbred Canada

Affiliates of Apollo Global Management have agreed upon a significantly higher purchase price for the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation portfolio than originally negotiated last month, as reported on Tuesday (Dec. 22). After a number of major Great Canadian shareholders expressed disapproval in the initial terms of the transaction, the two parties renegotiated the sale price from $39 per share to $45 per share. The roughly 15 per cent increase will render the total purchase price of the portfolio as $3.8 billion, or roughly $500 million more than provided in the original terms of the transaction. With the City of Hamilton entering the Grey-Lockdown category as of Monday, December 21 at 12:01 a.m., Flamboro Downs will not be permitted to host its card previously drawn for Tuesday, December 22. Following discussions with all appropriate parties and pending final approval from the AGCO on Monday, the card slated for Tuesday at Flamboro Downs will now take place on Wednesday afternoon at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Post time for the 11-race card, which will be contested under the Woodbine Standardbred brand, is 2:00 p.m.

Live racing without spectators, with pari-mutuel wagering offered on those races via simulcast, had been conducted at Flamboro Downs since Sept. 3, 2020. Gaming operations at Elements Casino Flamboro (the same location as Flamboro Downs), were suspended on Nov. 15, 2020.
