WASHINGTON Evoking a combination of the moral imperative of Holy Week and the political imperative of ending minority control of the U.S. Senate, the Poor People’s Campaign launched a new phase of its continuing drive to end the Senate filibuster.
Without that action, said the Revs. Liz Theoharis and William Barber II, the campaign’s co-chairs, everything from worker rights to voting rights to legislation against long-running economic and societal racism would founder and die on the filibuster rocks.
“Don’t filibuster democracy!” was the repeated chant of the group gathered in D.C., and allies elsewhere and emblazoned in large black letters on a three big yellow signs, too.

OAKLAND, Calif. - COVID-19 financially crippled many hundreds of Bay Area arts-and-entertainment performers over the past year.
The starving musicians category swelled exponentially, for example, because many lacked digital skills needed to overcome gig loss triggered by in-person venues closing.
Noteworthy exceptions exist, however. Pianist-singer Mike Greensill, widower who lives in St. Helena (after years in San Francisco with his wife, singer Wesla Whitfield), draws roughly 1,000 viewers each Monday, Wednesday and Friday to his livestreams on Facebook.
