Heavy equipment used to dump materials in Meridian Creek, conservation officers seeking suspects

A dumping of gravel, sticks and other materials was found at Meridian Creek by Creighton conservation officers earlier this month. Conservation is now looking for suspects in the dumping, which was illegal under provincial water management laws and blocked a fish-bearing waterway. - PHOTO COURTESY SASKTIP Conservation officers in Creighton are looking for someone who allegedly used heavy equipment to dump materials into Meridian Creek between Creighton and Denare Beach. According to Sasktip, officers believe that someone pushed gravel and rock into Meridian Creek to alter the flow of water not far from Highway 106 between July 9-15. Altering the creek is not legal, under provincial decree, without approval from the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency (WSask). Materials dumped into the creek include gravel and sticks - conservation officers say the blockage was man-made.

Price receives provincial, national honours for volunteer work

Most notably, Price has been one of the driving forces behind the Green Project and Flinty’s Boardwalk committee, along with the Flin Flon Ski Club, with which he has volunteered for almost half a century, organizing races and events, expanding trails and amenities for skiers and promoting the sport through the community. “I’m an outdoor guy, I like to be out there and I like to be doing stuff. That’s what it was all about,” said Price. “As a retired geologist, I’ve been to all sorts of interesting and beautiful places in the bush that most people would never get to know. It’s been kind of fun for me to be designing trails so that people can get to these interesting places that they otherwise would never find.”

Creighton, Denare Beach lift fire bans, Flin Flon and northern Manitoba stay restricted

“Effective immediately, the fire ban for the Town of Creighton has been lifted,” reads a statement from the Town July 26. “The Village of Denare Beach has rescinded the municipal fire ban. Thank you for your cooperation,” reads a similar statement made by the Village of Denare Beach July 27. A municipal fire ban is still in place for Flin Flon and has stayed in place since July 16. Areas 12 and 13, which covers Flin Flon, Bakers Narrows, Snow Lake, Cranberry Portage, Clearwater Lake, The Pas, Thompson and all other communities in the extended area, are under Level 2 fire and travel restrictions due to fire danger. Provincial burning permits are cancelled, as are authorizations for fireworks and non-permitted backcountry travel. Restrictions for Area 13 are similar to those already in place in Manitoba provincial parks.
