Open Minds and Open Source: Linux Foundation LF Energy Introduces Two Initiatives Designed to Reduce Carbon and Shift to Sustainable Energy By Arti LoftusApril 15, 2021
Building on its groundbreaking initiative, the Linux Foundation’s LF Energy announced it has introduced a Service-based Open-source Grid automation platform for Network Operation of the Future (SOGNO) and Power System Network Operations (PSNO) designed to advance energy automation and hardware virtualization.
The LF Energy project provides a 21st-century plan of action to solve climate change through open frameworks, reference architectures, and a support ecosystem of complementary projects, seeking to accelerate the energy transition of the world’s power and transportation systems through open-source technology.

Despite the ongoing rollout of coronavirus vaccines, masks remain a critical tool to reducing the spread of COVID-19. But the pandemic has put a premium on both the quality of face masks and the number of them wearing more than one mask is now becoming a popular habit as more infectious variants of the virus crop up around the United States. Research suggests double-masking can bolster protection, making for a better fit over the mouth and nose with less open space at the edges. At the same time, there is a shortage of clinical-grade personal protective equipment (PPE) in multiple regions.

Given the significant wealth of data available from an energy generation asset today, it’s perhaps easy to overlook the availability and value from around the asset as well. Katie Applebaum, business development manager at Clir Renewables, explains why this ‘data disarray’ is preventing solar assets from reaching their full potential.

As solar continues to proliferate and the very first large-scale arrays exceed 10 years of operational life, the value of operations and maintenance services is forecast to skyrocket. But as Edith Hancock writes, industry pressures such as new technologies and consolidation, are reshaping the industry.
No Easy Solution To Global Container Shortage
The current shortage of containers has resulted in high freight rates for exporters and disrupted many Malaysian businesses that trade globally.
This, in turn, has led to calls from the Malaysian National Shippers’ Council (MNSC) for the government to intervene and provide some sort of fiscal relief to exporters in the form of tax incentives and the removal of the cap on total logistics costs for a Market Development Grant. (The grant, capped at 30% of logistics costs, is given by the government to encourage companies to expand their market.)
The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) is also urging the government and the port authorities to leverage their relationships with shipping lines to get them to provide more services and capacity to Malaysian ports.
