After 17 years, Hagrama Mohilary will no longer be chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council. The autonomous council was created in 2003 after a peace accord between the government and a section of the Bodo groups fighting for a separate state. Mohilary, then the leader of the armed group, the Bodo Liberation Tigers, was the face of the accord. Since then, Mohilary and his Bodoland People’s Front, the party that grew out of the armed group, have kept a firm grip on the four districts of Assam covered by the territorial council.

Guwahati (Assam) [India], December 14 (ANI): Assam s Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) will form a coalition-ruled governance structure comprising of United People s Party Liberation (UPPL), Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) on December 15, 2020, said Governor Jagdish Mukhi.
The Governor has accepted the claims towards the formation of the new executive council to BTC with Promod Boro, a former president of All Bodo Students Union who leads the UPPL now, as the next Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the council. Assam s Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) will form a coalition-ruled governance structure comprising of United People s Party Liberation (UPPL), Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and Gana Suraksha Party(GSP) on 15th December, 2020, Mukhi tweeted on Sunday.

Kokrajhar: Bodoland People s Front (BPF) general secretary Prabin Boro in a press meet held on Monday at Kokrajhar raised several issues related to forming the government in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
Addressing the media Boro said, the democracy is being killed in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts(BTAD). BPF is the only single largest party that won the majority with 7 seats in the Bodoland Territorian Council (BTC)elections. We should have had the opportunity to form government in BTC but the governor denied to accept their application request to form government in BTC. We will show our strength if needed, Boro added.

The elections have thrown up a fractured mandate with the ruling Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) winning only 17 seats. Led by the Hagrama Mohilary, a militant turned politician, the BPF emerged as the single-largest party.
