Overall purpose of the role:
The Base Manager - Mrauk U is responsible for the management, implementation, development and representation of DRC programming in the area of Mrauk U and Kyawktaw townships. S/he is directly responsible for the oversight of program implementation as well as direct management of support functions for a base which counts around 50-60 DRC staff. The Base Manager, in close collaboration with the Program Coordinators and with the support of the Area Manager based in Sittwe, will promote programme integration and guarantee the effective delivery of activities in the area. The Syria crisis is often described as the worst humanitarian catastrophe since the end of the Cold War. Inside Syria, 6.5 million people are internally displaced and 13.5 million are in need of humanitarian assistance, with 4.5 million in hard-to-reach areas. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) first began assisting Syrians in 2012, responding to needs in both Northwest and Northeast Syria (NWS-NES). Our programs are coordinated by teams based in Syria, Turkey, Iraq, and Jordan providing support that is tailored to the needs of local communities in the fields of health, child protection, education, women’s protection and empowerment, food distribution, cash assistance, water and sanitation, and livelihood.

Inside Syria, 6.2 million people are internally displaced and 11.7 million are in need of humanitarian assistance. There are 5.6 million Syrian refugees in neighboring countries. This is no short-term humanitarian episode. The devastating human consequences to huge numbers of people will endure for decades. The destruction of relationships, communities, livelihoods, homes and infrastructure will take years to repair and has a profound impact on the neighboring countries which are hosting the overwhelming majority of Syrian refugees and find themselves under increasing strain.

The Program Coordinator (PC) is the primary representative of Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) Northwest in the communities where there are Jesuit Volunteers (JVs)/AmeriCorps members, serving as a resource and facilitator to sustain a meaningful JV/AmeriCorps member experience for the local JV communities and individual JV/AmeriCorps members within the state of Montana.
