8 companies named to Innovation Depot’s 2021 Velocity Accelerator cohort

Innovation Depot’s Velocity Accelerator program has picked eight startup companies for its 2021 cohort.
More than 50 companies applied for the program, now in its fifth year, which recruits tech companies and gives them access to $50,000 in capital, along with resources and mentoring in order to grow their operations quickly.
But this is the second year the program will be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which hit right in the middle of the 2020 cohort. So most of the action will take place virtually with a few socially-distanced learning opportunities at Innovation Depot. The teams are set to receive 13 weeks of intensive business and leadership development, beginning Jan. 25 and concluding in April. A Digital Demo Week will replace the usual in-person Demo Day.

Maynard, Cooper & Gale acted as external legal counsel for Protective.
Revolos offers finance and insurance products, including vehicle service contracts, guaranteed asset protection coverage and ancillary products serving the automotive, recreational vehicle and powersports industries. It has 3,000 dealers, agents, and financial institutions in the U.S., and has distributed more than $250 million in underwriting gains and investment income.
Protective had assets of approximately $125 billion at the close of the 2020 fiscal year.

Dora and I moved to Birmingham in 1993. I was a newly minted Ph.D. from University of Georgia, where I met Dr. Khris McAllister, former Chair of the Management Department of Collat School of Business. He invited me for an interview in the fall of 1992.
Dora and I were sold, as we drove past Lady Liberty I-459. We are both immigrants, having already uprooted our lives once – so were in the search of a home that fulfilled our desire to balance quality of life with professional opportunities. The gentle rolling hills and the greenery was just perfect, but what was even better was the view of Downtown Birmingham as I sat in Dean Gene Newport’s office for the interview.

With support from Protective Life Corporation, the University of Alabama is launching an initiative to help underrepresented students get a head start on finding their potential path to a business college experience.
Support from Protective, based in Birmingham, will start the Diversity in Business Bridge Program in the UA Culverhouse College of Business. It’s a recognition of Protective’s shared priority with the university of improving practices oriented around diversity, equity and inclusivity in the workplace and the world.
