Vietnam to import first batch of 204,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses

The Health Ministry has approved the import of 204,000 doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine this month to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
This would be the first batch out of 30 million doses of vaccine that Vietnam had previously ordered to buy. The vaccine is developed by British-Swedish company AstraZeneca in collaboration with Oxford University.
The Drug Administration of Vietnam under the Ministry of Health on Wednesday allowed AstraZeneca Vietnam Company Limited to import the doses under emergent circumstances to help fight against Covid-19 pandemic which has turned more complicated in Vietnam.

The international community should unite to ensure global access to Covid-19 vaccines, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh told a United Nations meeting.
Countries need to cooperate in implementing effective pandemic response and vaccination strategies, treating Covid-19 vaccines as a mutual asset of the international community, ensuring affordable vaccines for all and giving priority to groups at high risk of infection and those on the front lines in the fight against the pandemic, the deputy PM, who is also Vietnam’s Foreign Affairs Minister, said as he attended an online meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday.

VOV.VN - The country will get approximately five million doses of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine by the end of February, including some 4.9 million vaccine doses provided via Covax, a global mechanism for developing, manufacturing, and procuring the COVID-19 vaccine.
Roughly 117,000 other doses are set to be imported, Deputy Health Minister Truong Quoc Cuong said, with their arrival set to be by the end of February providing that flights and procedures are completed according to schedule.
With regard to administering the doses, a total of five million people will receive an initial shot of the vacine before receiving a booster jab three months later. Around two to five million people on the frontline of the fight against the virus will be prioritised to get the vaccine.

Vietnam s Covid-19 vaccine effective on variants: university

Nanocovax, a Vietnamese Covid-19 vaccine, is said to have an effect on coronavirus variants following the first phase of human trials, according to Vietnam Military Medical University.
The first phase of human trials for Nanocovax, which began last December, recently ended with 120 vaccine shots administered to 60 volunteers. The volunteers were split into three groups to be injected with three vaccine doses: 25 micrograms, 50 micrograms and 75 micrograms in two shots, 28 days apart.
