May 25, 2021 12:04:26 PM National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad was today told to change the background of his setting for the virtual sitting of Parliament as it had a party logo. A point of order was raised by Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum who stated that it was discussed in the business committee meeting yesterday that all members should have a neutral background. He should cover the word NFP because when we come into parliament we do not come with the political party banner.” In response Prof Prasad said: “I listen to the speaker Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, I do not answer to you.”

The National Federation Party has called on Government to make the public aware of its plans to help the most vulnerable and what it intends to do with the $55 million given by the Australian Government towards the COVID-19 fight.
Party leader Professor Biman Prasad said while the people of Fiji were deeply grateful to the Australian Government for the $55 million budgetary assistance and the New Zealand Government’s donation of AstraZeneca vaccines for 250,000 people, they were also asking questions.
He said the party had asked Government to make available $10m to non-governmental and faith-based organisations to aid their relief programs but the State had not responded.

GOVERNMENT should immediately make $10 million available to urgently address food crises faced by impoverished families across the country, says National Federation Party (NFP) leader Professor Biman Prasad.
In a statement issued yesterday, he said if people were not provided support, they would be forced to leave their homes to find ways and means to feed their families.
“We are appealing to the Government to show leadership and take clear, positive and immediate steps to tackle the issue of food poverty in our country resulting from the renewed coronavirus outbreak,” he said.

GOVERNMENT must work with NGOs to identify the most vulnerable and extend immediate help to them.
This was the word from the National Federation Party leader Professor Biman Prasad in a statement issued yesterday.
He said Government’s much-trumpeted 10-year unprecedented economic boom was meaningless unless the State could provide food on the table for Fijians affected by job losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is the least that this Government, that has always bragged about giving people a leg up or leaving no one behind, can do, which is to ensure our citizens are able to put food on the table three times a day to feed their families,” said Prof Prasad.

AT 11.45pm on Friday, March 26, 2021, 30 per cent of Fiji’s population or one in every three people statistically, would have suffered a hammer-blow after listening to or watching the Minister for Health and Medical Services sound a dire warning in Parliament about the most commonly used drug, Metformin, to treat diabetes.
What Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said in response to National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad’s End of Week Statement highlighting pitfalls about the shortage of medicine and procurement processes, including shortage of the basic diabetic drug Metformin, sent shockwaves.
