Minnesota Wild Rookie Kirill Kaprizov Wins Calder Trophy
Minnesota Wild rookie standout Kirill Kaprizov is the first player in team history to win the Calder Memorial Trophy.
The yearly award is given to the league s most productive rookie, and Kaprizov certainly met the criteria by leading the team and all other NHL rookies with 51 points in 55 games this season, the team says he is one of four rookies since 1992-93 to lead a team in points during the regular season, while helping them qualify for the playoffs.
The 24-year-old Kaprizov was picked by the Wild in the fifth round (135th overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, and in 2020 he signed a two-year deal with the Wild after his deal with CSKA Moscow, a professional hockey club in his home country of Russia, expired.

This is an honor similar to the All-Star First and Second Teams for the NHL’s players and it is voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers Association. Three forwards, two defensemen, and a goaltender are selected annually for this team. This year’s All-Rookie Team consists of Smith, goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic of Carolina, defenseman K’Andre Miller of Our Hated Rivals, forward Kirill Kaprizov of Minnesota, forward Josh Norris of Ottawa, and forward Jason Robertson of Dallas. As per the press release, Smith is the sixth defenseman in Devils history to be named to the All-Rookie team. He joins Will Butcher, Colin White, Brian Rafalski, Scott Niedermayer, and Eric Weinrich in that group. That is not a bad group to be a part of. While Butcher’s career remains in progress, the other four played in this league for quite a long time.

Everyone agrees, Connor McDavid is the best. The Edmonton Oilers superstar has won the 2020-21 Hart Trophy as the NHL’s most valuable player, as well as the Ted Lindsay Award as the game’s best player as voted on by the players. This is McDavid’s second Hart and third Lindsay to go with his third Art Ross Trophy earned this season as the league’s top scorer.
Really though, everyone agrees. McDavid was a unanimous selection for the Hart Trophy, receiving all 100 first-place votes from the Professional Hockey Writers Association. He joins Wayne Gretzky as the only players to have ever won the award unanimously. McDavid made it hard for the writers, or his peers in the league, to vote otherwise with an unfathomable 105 points in just 56 games. It is no question that he was the most valuable player in the league, contributing to 57% of Edmonton’s top-t
