Race and White Supremacy in American Policing: An Investigation

Rolling Stone By Anita Muldoon could sense that this might be her last chance to make it as a cop. She was riding shotgun in a Minneapolis squad car in the fall of 1993 when her training officer offered a blunt assessment of her standing. “You’re not trusted,” he told her. “And you won’t be until you’re in a physical fight.” To rectify this, he said, she’d need to “leak” someone, as in make them bleed. Muldoon felt her stomach drop. She had known she would stick out from her peers a liberal woman embarking on a law-enforcement career in her mid-thirties. She just hadn’t understood all the reasons why. Since coming to the 3rd Precinct, she’d often heard the n-word from her colleagues. Now her training officer motioned toward a black man walking in their direction on the sidewalk.

New Bedford Police Dept committed to reviewing Hugh Dunn crash

NEW BEDFORD  Amid some public outcry, the New Bedford Police Department is committed to thoroughly investigating how its officers handled a car crash involving City Councilor Hugh Dunn, said Lt. Scott Carola, the department s public information officer. Dunn hit two parked vehicles at around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 1. Dunn received no citations or charges.

Bristol County DA s Office investigating city councilor car crash

NEW BEDFORD  The Bristol County District Attorney s Office announced Friday it is assigning a state trooper to investigate the incident last week in which City Councilor Hugh Dunn hit two parked vehicles with his car at nearly 1:30 a.m. He received no charges or citations.  After speaking with the New Bedford Police and being provided with investigative materials, we have decided to assign a Massachusetts State Trooper to work with New Bedford Police to further investigate this case, said Gregg Miliote, a spokesperson for the DA s office, in an email.  Asked if the trooper would request any blood samples possibly taken from Dunn after he was transported to the hospital, or if the trooper would review any surveillance footage from the area, Miliote said the office does not comment on investigative techniques.
