New chancellor s fee decision disputed by TransPerfect lawyers

Delaware Business Now Reading Time: 2 minutes Citizens for a Pro-Business Delaware is criticizing a decision by newly sworn-in Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick over billing for services related to the sale of TransPerfect. Lawyers for TransPerfect Global have requested a change on  Chancery Court Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick’s decision regarding  Skadden Arps’ past billing practices. TransPerfect has asked for more detail on billing practices from the Chancery Court-appointed custodian of the company,  Robert Pincus, a former Skadden Arps partner, after being billed more than $44 million the past years. A letter to McCormick stated  that “Pincus’s gamesmanship and bill churning continues with these motions and refusal to engage in discussions towards compromise solutions to outstanding issues… Encouraging and rewarding motion practice and scorched-earth tactics over compromise is the antithesis of judicial efficiency and has an antithetical result.”

Clergymen seek meeting with leader of Delaware Bench & Bar Diversity Project

Sharpton has highlighted what he views as a lack of diversity in Delaware’s judicial system, noting the disparity between the percentage of people of color in Delaware’s prison population and representation on the state courts. Pastor Blaine Hackett of St. John African Methodist Church has hosted events and developed a grassroots coalition at the local level.

Montgomery-Reeves was sworn in as associate justice on the Delaware Supreme Court in January 2020, she made history as the first Black judge to join the state’s top court. The rarity of her accomplishment is the result of a lack of diversity throughout Delaware’s judiciary. According to the state, 75% of its judicial officers are white, which is about 6% higher than the percentage of white residents in the state.

Bench and Bar Diversity Project announced - Delaware Business Now

Delaware Business Now Delaware Supreme Court Chief Justice Collins J. Seitz, Jr. announced the Delaware Bench and Bar Diversity Project. This project, launched in collaboration with the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) and AccessLex Institute, will be led by a steering committee composed of judicial officers, individuals, and organizations working to build and sustain a more diverse Delaware bench and bar. The Project is the first of its kind strategic effort to address diversity issues in the legal field, a release stated.
