Role of Maltese in education
During the 19th century there was considerable public debate in Malta on the issue of the role that the Maltese language should play in education. Having a keen interest in education, Lorenzo Manché provided significant input to two major public reviews. The first was to Royal Commissioner Sir Patrick Joseph Keenan, who was sent to Malta in 1878 to investigate reforms to the educational system of the island, and the second, two decades later, to the Select Committee of the Council of Government set up in 1897 to look into the organisation of the Department of Education.

A century ago, Malta mourned the loss of a highly-gifted ophthalmologist who had a profound sense of compassion for the poor and the illiterate.

Lorenzo Manché was considered a leading authority in Europe on ophthalmology, particularly following the publication of his groundbreaking textbook in 1885 on the subject.
Foremost among his many achievements is his pioneering work in the fight against trachoma, a serious eye disease prevalent in Malta during the latter half of 19th century, primarily among those in the lower socio-economic strata of society.

Comedian Ai Ai delas Alas is among those quite happy with Nova Villa being granted a Papal Award or the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, a recognition conferred to individuals for their distinguished service to the Catholic Church.
She took to Instagram to congratulate Nova, writing, “Congratulations Tita NOVA VILLA for your Papal Award ( Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice is awarded for those who in a general way deserves well of the pope on account of service done for the church and its head).”
“We are very happy and rejoicing with you (my co Papal awardee) .. and thank you for spreading GOD’s goodness and mercy .. TO GOD BE THE GLORY ALWAYS AND FOREVER,” she added.

Novaliches Bishop Roberto Gaa conferred the Pro Ecclesia et Pro Pontifice to Gallegos on Jan. 14 at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish in Quezon City.
In an interview with Church-run Radio Veritas, Gallegos said she didn’t expect that she will receive such recognition from the Church.
“Everything I do for God comes from my heart; I’m happy to do it even if it’s difficult,” she said. “I think, I am just an instrument of God’s grace to people; by being nice to people, giving smile at them, you’re giving them hope,” added Gallegos.
On Campus Chaplains
Take a closer look at two traditional college experiences on Baylor University’s campus living in residence halls and competing on one of the University’s 19 NCAA Division I athletics teams and you will often find a unique marker of Truett Seminary’s influence. Truett students serving as resident and sports chaplains are embedded within their respective communities and walk through the challenges and opportunities of daily life with students.
The resident chaplain program works with the Department of Pastoral Care in the Office of Baylor Spiritual Life and Campus Living and Learning. Each resident chaplain lives in an on-campus residential community and provides a ministerial presence for the residents. Similarly, sports chaplains are integral members of the Baylor Athletics teams and provide a needed source of pastoral care to student-athletes.
