On May 12, 2021, Senator Kevin Thomas reintroduced the New York Privacy Act (the Act or NY Privacy Act ) before the New York Senate. In 2019, Senator Thomas had hoped to pass privacy legislation S5642 (the Bill ) to amend the general business law to address the management and oversight of consumer personal information. The Bill was set aside during the 2019 coronavirus pandemic when priorities shifted to address COVID-related issues. Germany adopts new data protection and privacy law

German parliament this week adopted a law regulating data protection and privacy in telecommunications and telemedia. For the first time, the legislator transposed EU requirements on cookies from the bloc’s e-privacy directive. EURACTIV Germany reports. German data protection was until recently regulated by a series of laws. That led to legal uncertainty due to partially contradictory provisions. Both the Telemedia Act (TMG) and the recently amended Telecommunications Act (TKG) have prompted uncertainty in some quarters. The Data Protection Act passed on Thursday (20 May) intends to unify the country’s rules and bring them in line with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
