Traffic study information from the 47th Street/55th Avenue intersection shows that changes are needed

Traffic study information from the 47th Street/55th Avenue intersection shows that changes are needed Last March, a resident approached Whitecourt Town Council about their concerns on an intersection in front of their home. The resident was worried about the speeds travelled on 47th Street in the vicinity of the intersection with 55th Avenue and felt something needed to change to protect drivers and pedestrians. Their concerns triggered a traffic study, and at last Monday’s Policies and Priorities Committee meeting Town Administration brought forward the results. Michael Harper, Civil Engineering Technologist for the Town of Whitecourt, said that they did digital recordings of both the volume and speed travelled by motorists. “We determined that both were very high, especially along 47th street. Volunteers in need of support

Volunteers in need of support SHARE ON: Volunteers need support [Pixabay] Lloydminster Mayor Gerald Aalbers vocalized his support for volunteer groups who have had a difficult go at finding funding in the COVID-19 world. His comments came as City Council met for their regular Governance and Priorities Committee session on Monday 19th April. There was a request to assist the Lloydminster Citizens on Patrol Society whose fundraising efforts have been stymied due to the economic challenges  of COVID. “There’s a lot of volunteer organisations that are finding it tough and difficult for fundraising, so it’s something the City will have to consider,  if it comes forward from Administration which I suspect it will and what they propose for a funding methodology.”

Proposed Saskatoon accommodation tax won t happen overnight, city manager says

SASKATOON The Governance and Priorities Committee on Monday voted in favour of pushing forward with the city’s grand vision of a new downtown arena, convention centre and larger entertainment district. Before the committee was an administration report outlining options to pay for it. The committee heard about the need for new entertainment infrastructure from SaskTel Centre and TCU Place board members, and the need for better tourism amenities from the hotel and tourism industry. The end goal, the city said, was to lessen the burden on property taxes. Administration recommended an accommodation tax on all hotel rooms sales, something done in other Canadian cities. But Tourism Saskatoon felt this step would only hurt an already decimated hospitality sector.
