Dan Milford begins acting principal role at Highbridge s King Alfred School Academy

HIGHBRIDGE S King Alfred School Academy has a new acting principal. Dan Milford started the role last week, and will continue in the post until January 2022, when a permanent principal is to be appointed. Nathan Jenkins, the former principal, has been promoted to the role of head of school improvement at the Priory Learning Trust. As King Alfred School is a part of the trust, Mr Jenkins will still have a role in moving the school forward. Mr Milford has been a teacher for 25 years, having been a professional and semi-professional footballer and ending his playing career with Bridgwater Town FC.

Kieran Ward and Olivia Elliott, former students of Castle Batch School Academy and Worle Community School Academy (WCSA), and Georgina Lodge, who went to Priory Community School Academy (PCSA), have successfully gained jobs in schools within the Priory Learning Trust they previously went to school in. They are part of 16 new teachers across TPLT who have been students at schools inside the trust, thanks to the popular Schools Direct programme.

Lyra, who had a brain tumour the size of an orange successfully removed when she was a baby, hopes the song can cheer up people in tough times. The money raised from her latest song will go to In Charley’s Memory, a charity formed close in partnership with the King Alfred School Academy in Highbridge. In Charley’s Memory was given its official charity status in March 2015 and since then has gone on to aid countless numbers of people as numbers needing their services rocketed.

The inspirational Lyra Cole from Somerset is releasing a cover of Toy Story’s ‘You’ve Got a Friend In Me’ to raise money for In Charley’s Memory (ICM), a mental health charity. Lyra, from Highbridge, had emergency surgery to remove a brain tumour the size of an orange when she was five months old. The talented youngster hopes the song will cheer people up after such a challenging year.
