Former parliamentary commissioner sets record straight – Eye Witness News

Lavado Duncanson named as acting parliamentary commissioner NASSAU, BAHAMAS Former Parliamentary Commissioner Sherlyn Hall suggested yesterday that the recent establishment of a continuous voter’s register using the voter’s register from the last general election, sets the “record straight” over the competency of his tenure and the integrity of that register. In a letter to the editor, titled “Who will replace P Turner as parliamentary commissioner?”, Hall said he wished to set the “record straight” on the creation and genesis of the now permanent voter’s register. Hall wrote: “I am encouraged by Jesus’ advice [and] instruction in Matthew 5:16: ‘Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.’ And so I do. Gordon Butch Stewart dies at 79 - The Nassau Guardian

Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart dies at 79 Gordon Butch Stewart. Gordon “Butch” Stewart, a pioneer in the tourism industry in the Caribbean and chairman of Sandals Resorts, died on Monday evening. He was 79. His son, Adam Stewart, deputy chairman of Sandals, said in a statement the news seemed almost unbelievable since his father was as involved and forward thinking as ever.  Stewart said his father had chosen to keep a very recent health diagnosis private. He described him as a gifted entrepreneur, a marketing genius and talented showman, and a dreamer who could dream bigger and better than anyone. “Together, we have all been part of something bigger than ourselves, led by a man who believed in us and who gave us opportunities to learn, grow and the tools to make dreams real,” Stewart said.

Bahamian wives made their bed

EDITOR, The Tribune. The discriminatory element within the Free National Movement (FNM) government’s Fisheries Bill, 2020 has caused somewhat of a brouhaha within its ranks, with East Grand Bahama MP Peter Turnquest and former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham both expressing opposition to it. On the other end of the spectrum, I would imagine that the group, The Bahamas Commercial Fishers Alliance (BCFA), which lobbied the former Progressive Liberal Party administration under Mr. Perry Christie to repeal the policy of granting permits to alleged Dominican fishermen married to Bahamian women in 2012, is ecstatic. For years, Bahamian fishermen have complained about the practice of what seemed like marriages of convenience, in which Dominican men engaged in the fishing sector are marrying Bahamian women. In many instances, these Dominicans can hardly count from one to ten in English, yet are able to say “I do” in perfect English before a Bahamian justice of the peace.
