Government responds to social media post

Social Share The Government of Barbados issued a press release today responding to a social media post about an incident which occurred in Deacons, St Michael on Good Friday. It said contrary to the post, Prime Minister Mia Mottley did not call any member of the Royal Barbados Police Force to intervene in the incident. The release follows in full below: Within recent hours, a social media post regarding an incident at Deacon’s Road on Good Friday has been gaining significant traction, even though the salacious details at its core are untrue. According to the post, on Good Friday, police ordered the closure of a “cookshop” that is operated by Ross Ashton on Deacons Road, but that Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley intervened by calling Deputy Commissioner of Police Oral Williams, who then instructed the officers to leave the operators of the establishment alone.

More COVID-19 vaccines coming on Tuesday

Social Share Barbados is scheduled to receive the first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines under the COVAX facility on Tuesday morning. Prime Minister Mia Mottley, Minister of Health Jeffrey Bostic and other officials are expected to accept the 33 600 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine at the Grantley Adams International Airport around 6:30 a.m. During the last address to the nation, Mottley said the vaccines were expected to arrive soon, but did not give a specific date. She said they were also exploring other options. “We are not sure exactly when the COVAX vaccines are coming. We will hope that arrival will be in a few weeks. We also have the two commercial orders of AstraZeneca, and then we have the Africa Medical Supplies platform for the provision of 220 million doses of Johnson & Johnson.”

Mottley: COVID-19 vaccine rollout by weekend

Article by Social Share Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley said the COVID-19 vaccination campaign will be rolled out over the next few days. This is after Barbados received 100 000 doses of the Covishield Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine from India today. Mottley said tomorrow co-cordinators of the National COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign Barbados Defence Force’s Major David Clarke and public health specialist Dr Elizabeth Ferdinand will begin the roll out of vaccines. They will also speak about how the vaccines will be delivered over the next ten days. The Prime Minister said frontline workers, along with the most vulnerable will be among the first to receive the vaccine.
