Geography Bee champs crowned By Eddie Mowen Jr. - cmowen@aimmediamidwest.com The winning teams received a 30-inch tall traveling trophy with perpetual name plate which have the winning schools’ names engraved. The winning teams’ school can display the trophy as long as its team remains champions. The second place teams also received smaller traveling trophies. Twin Valley South’s fourth and fifth grade team and Eaton Middle School’s sixth-eighth grade team were declared the winners of the annual Preble County Geography Bee, held Thursday, April 15, at Preble Shawnee. Preble Shawnee’s fourth and fifth grade team and Tri-County North’s sixth-eighth grade team took home second place honors in the competition.

Shawnee superintendent resigning By Eddie Mowen Jr. - cmowen@aimmediamidwest.com Bishop CAMDEN After five years as Preble Shawnee Local Schools Superintendent, Dr. Matt Bishop is resigning to accept a position at Miami Valley Career Technology Center. Bishop submitted his resignation to the PS Board of Education in a letter dated Wednesday, April 14. The letter, addressed to PS Board President Julie Singleton, noted: “Five years ago, the Board of Education hired me to become superintendent of the Preble Shawnee Local School District. Together, we have accomplished a considerable amount including a $6.5 million dollar renovation of the Jr./Sr. High School building, planned improvements to Camden Primary this summer, enhancements to our educational programming, addition of School Resource Officers, creation of CCP and STEM courses, implementation of 1:1 student devices beginning this fall, community engagement that yielded our Facilities Master Plan, and so much more.”

Anthony Baker | The Register-Herald WEST ELKTON Council discussed the possibility of a major retailer setting up shop in the village during its regular monthly meeting Monday, April 12. Councilman John Berter stated that he’d been contacted multiple times by a Columbus-based realtor on behalf of an undisclosed retail company. The company has reportedly expressed interest in purchasing a vacant property located at the corner of OH-503 and Beechwood Ave in the village.
