JACKSON, Tenn. Patrick Merriweather appeared in Madison County Circuit Court Monday morning.
He was indicted on several charges, including attempted first-degree murder, especially aggravated robbery, gun charges, criminal trespass, and retaliation for past action.
Court documents say on August 22 of last year, Saving The Animals Together President Wendy Pickett was checking on her mom’s vacant property on Preston Street in Jackson when she found Merriweather in the house and called police.
After police gave Merriweather a misdemeanor citation and left, he allegedly shot Pickett with her own gun while she was in the vehicle.
Merriweather was found a short time later with some of Pickett’s belongings.

Ottawa restaurateurs, who were prohibited late last week from opening their patios as part of the province’s “emergency brake” on the spread of COVID-19, have felt all the more penalized after seeing people congregating en masse last weekend in public places and at big-box stores.
The weekend’s balmy weather, which is expected to continue through this week, drew crowds, in particular, to the ByWard Market and to the queues outside high-capacity stores.

A prominent Ottawa real estate developer has resurrected a plan to build a nine-storey apartment complex near the intersection of Preston Street and Carling Avenue in Little Italy.
Taggart Realty Management has submitted a proposal for a mid-rise structure at 93 Norman Ave., just west of Preston about four blocks north of Carling. Taggart Group vice-president Derek Howe said the plan currently calls for 127 rental apartments in a mix of studio, bachelor, one- and two-bedroom units.
The design from Roderick Lahey Architects features two tiers – a nine-storey tower on the west side and a five-storey podium with a rooftop terrace on the eastern portion of the property. An underground parking garage would contain 79 spaces for residents and 10 spots for visitors.
