Free Press Unlimited Struggling to survive, media and media support organisations alike are trying to discover and share trends, tips and tricks that can support media in developing their business models. This research explores income models of media operating in difficult contexts, focusing in particular on which environmental factors, such as the income level of audiences and the country s press freedom level, and characteristics of media outlets influence these income models. The goal of this research report, which is published by Free Press Unlimited, is to support independent media working in challenging environments in their efforts to strengthen their business models.

Morocco: Release human rights defender prosecuted on trumped up charges

27 January 2021, 10:53 UTC The Moroccan authorities must immediately and unconditionally release human rights defender Maati Monjib, and drop all charges against him including from a previous trial ongoing since 2015 in relation to his work on freedom of expression, Amnesty International said today. Following years of unlawful digital surveillance and judicial harassment, Monjib was detained on 29 December and his next investigation session before an investigative judge is scheduled for 27 January. In November 2020 and January 2021 letters to Amnesty International published hereas a right to reply, the Moroccan government denied that Monjib was targeted for his human rights work, yet unwittingly provided detail appearing to corroborate that very fact by referring to foreign funding he had received to organize workshops promoting the right to freedom of expression. International NGO Coalition Condemns Whistleblower Extradition Fight Immediate Release Monday 18 January 2021 We, the undersigned Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR) partners, whistleblowing, human rights, transparency and journalist organisations are alarmed by the ongoing extradition proceedings against Jonathan Taylor in Croatia.  On 4 th January 2020 the Dubrovnik County Court again ruled to extradite Jonathan to Monaco.  In October 2020, the Croatian Supreme Court had partially sustained his appeal against an earlier decision in favour of extradition by the Dubrovnik Court.   As Jonathan Taylor continues to fight his case in the Croatian courts, we call on the Croatian and Monegasque authorities to immediately and unconditionally end the extradition proceedings against him; we call on the UK Government to intervene with their Croatian and Monegasque counterparts on Jonathan Taylor’s behalf; and we call on the European Parliament to condemn this ongoing harassment of a
