Five Missouri high school seniors were selected as members of the 57 th class of U.S. Presidential Scholars along with 161 students from across the country. The president recognized the outstanding students listed below for their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields.

CHICAGO - Two Chicago area high school seniors are among 161 students from across the nation who have been named 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholars.
Louis Peacemaker Mukama, of Chicago, and Pavan Venkatesh Pandurangi, of Palatine, were named in the 57th class on Thursday, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Education. The 2021 Presidential Scholars represent extraordinary achievements for our extraordinary times, said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. I am delighted to join President Biden in saluting these outstanding young people for their achievements, service, character and continued pursuit of excellence.

Five students from Michigan schools were named 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholars this year.
A total of 161 high school seniors made the list, which features honors celebrating academia, arts, and technical education.
Three of the seniors attend Metro Detroit schools while two others came from other parts of the state. The 2021 Presidential Scholars represent extraordinary achievements for our extraordinary times, said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. Their examples make me proud and hopeful about the future. Honoring them can remind us all of the great potential in each new generation and renew our commitment to helping them achieve their dreams.
SANFORD, Maine – Sanford High School senior Aislynn K. Worden is a semifinalist in the 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.
At the high school on Wednesday, Worden said she was surprised when she got the news last fall.
“I still am,” she added.
Worden is one of only seven seniors in Maine named in a recent U.S. Department of Education announcement about those being considered for the program.
She joins Harshini K. Chaganti, of Scarborough High School; Devon Michael Hunter, of John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor; Pedro Santiago Little-Siebold, of Ellsworth High School; Culiandra Rose Nero, of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School; Swetha Palaniappan, of Cape Elizabeth High School; and Wade F. Wahlig, of Falmouth High School.
