Updated March 2, 2021 2:31pm The Court of Appeals (CA) has set aside a Makati judge’s decision reinstating the rebellion case against former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV following the nullification of his amnesty in 2018. In a decision, the CA Sixth Division said Judge Elmo Alameda of the Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 150 committed grave abuse of discretion when he refused to allow Trillanes to present testimonial evidence to prove that he applied and was granted amnesty in 2011. “The [trial court] limited itself only to hearing oral arguments and receiving affidavits,” the CA said in reversing Alameda’s orders in September and December 2018.

Senate Resolution No. 613 also expresses the Senate’s profound sympathy and sincere condolences to the family of the former soldier, and known to be a “staunch ally and advocate of environmental protection.”
Sen. Risa Hontiveros, principal author of the measure said she is sponsoring the measure “with honor and with gratitude but also with a heavy heart.”
“I did not know that when session opens for 2021, my first task would be to honor a soldier, a brave Filipino, and most of all, a friend,” Hontiveros said.
“General Danny Lim, as most people who know him can attest, was an intellectual giant…He dedicated his life to the pursuit of excellence: first topping the entrance exam to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), and then making it to the United States’ Military Academy at West Point,”

Our roads first crossed back in the mid-1990s as young, promising news reporters of the Star Network, ABS-CBN. I was covering the Malacanang beat, with then President Fidel V. Ramos, while Mon Ilagan was our eye in the Philippine Senate. We were then both small players in the big league, but with big dreams. When I decided to leave TV for the corporate world sometime in 1997, Mon stayed on with the station until he got part of his dreams fulfilled getting the chance to host the morning show and even sometimes pinch-hitting in the late-night primetime newscast then known as “PULSO.” I was sincerely happy for him, having seen how he persisted on his uphill climb that started at the very bottom as a production assistant in Radio Veritas as early as 1981. That’s hardwork that paid-off.

Danilo Lim, a former general with the Philippine Army’s elite Scout Rangers who had led two coup attempts during his military career and was serving as an official in the Duterte administration, died Wednesday, the president’s spokesman said.
Lim, 65, the chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, had tested positive for the coronavirus on Dec. 29 but had been asymptomatic, according to colleagues. The MMDA, in a statement issued Wednesday, said Lim died of cardiac arrest.
“The palace expresses its deep condolences to the family, loved ones and colleagues of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Danilo Lim,” Harry Roque, spokesman for Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, said in a statement.
