Sierra Leoneâs Corruption: A Strategic Review of Corruption under the SLPP vs the Unchecked corruption in the Past (APC) administration
By Edie P Vandy, on behalf of the SLPPNA Communications Committee
Sierra Leoneâs development efforts have been stifled because of corruption, until now with real progress matched by political commitment made by President Bio upon assumption of office on 12 May 2018.
The 18 monthsâ stewardship of the current administration has done much more in tackling corruption than the 11 years (2007-2018) management of the past APC government led by former President Koroma, which saw corruption thrive despite granting of independent prosecutorial powers in 2008 to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The Sierra Leonean government has decided to submit to Parliament the abolition of the death penalty, which is still on the statute books despite a de facto moratorium on executions, Deputy Justice Minister Umaru Napoleon Koroma said Wednesday.
The former British colony in West Africa has been criticized in recent years by human rights advocates for not abolishing the death penalty in law, although the last executions were carried out more than 20 years ago and sentences are usually commuted to life imprisonment. Once the legislation is submitted to parliament and approved, the history of the death penalty will be over in this poor country of some 7.5 million people, Koroma told AFP.
“You Have Failed Your People” – Vickie Remoe Blasts President Maada Bio
Famous Blogger and Marketing Specialist, Vickie Remoe has taken to social media to join the large swath of Sierra Leoneans who are incensed that President Maada Bio appointed Dennis Vandy, a man with a checkered history of corruption allegations as Minister of Finance.
Remoe stated that this is the straw that has broken the camels back for her and demolished any shred of hope that this SLPP government is serious about fighting corruption. She that this singular action by President Bio makes a mockery of the Commission of Inquiry which prominently featured Mr Vandi as one of the culprits that had stole government monies.

We call on Sierra Leone to ensure these principles of freedom of expression are protected in all future legislation including potential legislation on digital space.
The UK welcomes President Bio’s public commitment to abolish the death penalty. It is encouraging that Sierra Leone is taking tangible steps to abolish the death penalty from the statute books.
