Benji Marshall leaves the field after his last game for Wests Tigers. He latr autographed his last jersey for new South Sydney teammate Adam Reynolds.
Great Britain rugby league great Gary Schofield has questioned whether Wayne Bennett will give Benji Marshall the necessary freedom to shine at the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Marshall has joined Souths for the 2021 season after being released by Wests Tigers. The Kiwi superstar – who turns 36 this month – has played under Bennett before, starting from 2008 when the Kiwis won their first Rugby League Cup World Cup title with the Australian master coach serving as a technical adviser to rookie coach Stephen Kearney.

Benji Marshall picked up the phone last week and called Wayne Bennett looking for a job. Not to ask if there was a spare spot for him as a player, but to gauge if there was any room on Bennettâs coaching staff for a soon-to-be-retired, premiership-winning five-eighth.
Marshall, who was so desperate to play on in 2021 that he passed over a grand farewell from the Wests Tigers at the end of last season, had weeks ago resigned himself to the fact he would have to retire.
The farewell tour looks set to continue for Benji Marshall at South Sydney in 2021.
