Junior Emily Sullivan received a verbal commendation, seniors Diana Vink and Austin Matra received honorable mentions and senior Henry Bloss received an honorable mention as part of the ad hoc committee of the Secretary General. “In Model UN, each student is assigned a figure within a historical or contemporary scenario,” explained Diana. “You could take on the role of George Washington in the American Revolution or the role of a nation in a current United Nations committee on the refugee crisis. From there, you sit down in a committee with other relevant figures and come up with solutions to a given problem.”

Brewster CSD’s Parent University Supports the Community’s Bilingual Families Written by Jennifer Garry “This is my favorite night of the week,” said Alicia Manguso, Brewster Schools K-12 English as a New Language (ENL) Specialist. She was not talking about pizza night or a night for favorite TV. Instead, Manguso was referring to the weekly Parent University meeting she runs via Zoom with Brewster High School Assistant Principal Carlos Rodriguez. The meetings, which are in Spanish, are part of a K-12 initiative that works to engage bilingual parents in Brewster Central School District. To date, they have been well attended and an excellent vehicle for community building.

Brewster Students Against Cancer Continue to Give Back to the Community Written by Jennifer Garry Next When a beloved community fundraising event for Ann’s Place (a free, community-based cancer support center) was forced to go virtual, Brewster Students Against Cancer adapted and found a new way to support the non-profit. Last year, the Brewster High School club participated in Festival of Trees the largest annual fundraiser for Ann’s Place by decorating a tree that was raffled off to one lucky festival-goer. This year, the club donated $200 to the non-profit in lieu of decorating a tree for the virtual event.
