Fortescue Metals, BHP Group and Rio Tinto have gained between 2.7% to 6% as iron ore futures in Singapore jumped more than 10% to hit a fresh record high of US$226 a tonne. Crown Resorts has received a takeover offer from rival The Star Entertainment Group.
S&P/ASX 200 (INDEXASX:XJO) jumped 1.2% to a session high of 7166.1 points by noon as the mining giants soared on record commodity prices.

Brookside Energy Ltd (ASX:BRK)(OTCMKTS:RDFEF) has passed a major milestone with Jewell Well in the SWISH Area of Interest (AOI) of Oklahoma s world-class Anadarko Basin successfully spudded on the evening of May 8, 2021, by Latshaw Rig 14 after completion of rig-up and equipment testing.
Operations in the previous 24-hour period included laying out the drill-string, making up the bottom hole assembly (BHA), installing the measurement while drilling tool (MWD) and making up the drill bit.
The well is currently drilling ahead in the vertical section.
The Jewell Well
The high-impact Jewell 13-12-1S-3W SXH1 well will be the first company operated well to be drilled and completed in the Jewell DSU in Brookside s SWISH AOI in the Anadarko Basin.

Brookside Energy Ltd (ASX:BRK)(OTCMKTS:RDFEF) has started the large logistical task of mobilising a drill rig for the high-impact Jewell 13-12-1S3W SXH1 well in the SWISH Area of Interest (AOI) of Oklahoma s world-class Anadarko Basin.
Mobilisation of Latshaw Drilling Rig 14 to the Jewell Well location in Carter County, Oklahoma, is expected to be completed early this week after which rig up and testing of equipment will begin.
A pre-spud meeting between the Black Mesa team and all contractors is scheduled for the morning of May 7, 2021, with spud to occur shortly after.
