Brookdale Warming center gets volunteers to help those in need

The Epsilon Beta Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, volunteering at the Brookdale Warming shelter.
MACON, Georgia(41NBC/WMGT) The Brookdale Warming Center has been open for nearly two weeks, and they have helped more than 50 people. Now the organization needs volunteers.
Steve Bell the director of the center says they have plenty of donations, but they need volunteers.
Bells says volunteers help sort out items the shelter receives. They also help sign people in.
The center received help from the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Monday. The fraternity helped sort out items and also fed those staying at the shelter.

MACON, Ga. The Brookdale Warming Center just celebrated their first week since opening their doors to people in need of a safe, warm place to stay.
Director Steve Bell said the donations from the community was overwhelming.
“We’re swamped with donations. We don’t need anymore,” Bell said, “But our number one need is volunteers.
There are three ways volunteer can help. They can sign-in guests, sort and organize through donations, or help serve meals.
Volunteer Andrea Cooke is a part of the group that gets and organizes donations.
Macon Transit provides rides to Brookdale Warming Center

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) The Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority joined multiple community agencies to provide people a warm and safe place to stay at the Brookdale Warming Center. This is according to a Macon-Bibb County news release.
MTA will offer free rides to the center from the Historic Macon Terminal Station for anyone who has a pass provided by local support organizations.
Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller said, “There hasn’t been one organization that has said ‘no’ to help make the Brookdale Warming Center possible, and that speaks very highly of our community. One of our conversations from the beginning of putting this together was about getting people there, and I want to thank the Transit Authority for providing these rides.”

Right now, they are trying to get the word out about the center and get people there.
It s getting really chilly, and it s only going to get colder over the next couple nights. That s why the county says it s important to get people here who need this center. The key to this, though, is transportation, and that s why the Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority has stepped up to help.
