Is the U S Army Ready to Sink Enemy Ships?

The Precision Strike Missile will be able to hit targets out at sea. Here s What You Need to Know: The Army plans to fire PrSMs during its Project Convergence 2021. The Army envisions its emerging and now-in-development 500km-ranged Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) as a unique and potentially breakthrough multi-domain weapon system able to destroy enemy air defenses and even surface ships at great distances. Service weapons developers, many of whom see the PrSM as a critical and fast-evolving innovation, are already expanding their vision for the weapon and looking beyond its near-term mission scope. “We are thinking past 2023 and thinking about how we’re going to use the Precision Strike Missile to hit ships and air defenses,” Brig. U S Army s Precision Strike Missile Completes Longest Flight to Date

U.S. Army’s Precision Strike Missile Completes Longest Flight to Date Our Bureau 550 Precision Strike Missile Lockheed Martin said its Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) successfully completed the fourth consecutive flight test with the U.S. Army today in a 400-kilometer demonstration at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. The PrSM was fired from a HIMARS launcher and flew with expected precision to the target area where it once again demonstrated a highly accurate and effective warhead event. Test objectives included confirming flight trajectory, range and accuracy from launch to impact, as well as warhead lethality, HIMARS integration and overall missile performance.

US Army Tests New Missile with Pacific Threat in Mind

Advertisement The U.S. Army’s new long-range attack missile recently completed its longest test-launch yet, flying around 400 kilometers. The Precision Strike Missile will replace another aging truck-mounted missile. Since the United States left the Cold War-era Intermediate Nuclear Forces treaty in 2019, it is no longer prohibited from deploying ground-launched missiles with ranges greater than 500 kilometers, and the Army’s new strike missile is expected to be tested beyond that range later this summer. The U.S. Army is intent on carving out an expanded role for itself in the Pacific and posturing itself to effectively deter a potential conflict with China, despite the largely maritime region’s traditional dominance by the U.S. Navy and Air Force.
