Kier has been the biggest contractor by spend for the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) in the last two calendar years,
Construction News can reveal.
CN obtained the spending data on the MoJ’s spending with building contractors under the Freedom of Information Act. The spend includes that by HM Court Service and HM Prison and Probation Service as well as the MoJ directly.
Across the period, it spent a total of £616.9m with firms it defines as builders. Its total was £296.7m in 2019 with that figure increasing to £320m in 2020.
Kier earned a total of £272m in 2019 and 2020. The firm won the contract to build HMP Wellingborough, a 1,680-place category C prison in Northamptonshire, in July 2019.
