A federal judge has ordered the release of some detainees at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center in California following a COVID-19 outbreak at the facility and an ACLU lawsuit saying they were not being protected from the coronavirus. But ACLU attorney Ahilan Arulanantham says the safety precautions in place now are still not strong enough to keep them safe.
Coronavirus transfers from San Quentin prison now on indefinite pause

SAN QUENTIN, Calif. - The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on Wednesday imposed an indefinite pause on further coronavirus-related transfers from San Quentin, KTVU has learned.
Transfers for reasons other than coronavirus, such as emergency medical care, will continue. This is a good thing, said Don Specter of the Prison Law Office, who along with other attorneys have been fighting to release medically vulnerable prisoners from custody during the pandemic. He was told the news firsthand.
It was not made clear how long transfers will be put on hold.

An investigation by the state Attorney General’s office revealed a long list of what the board would call “unethical and unprofessional conduct.”
Among them: records show he repeatedly prescribed narcotics without documenting if his patients actually needed them; if he put them on the drugs, he often failed document their risk for suicide or addiction, then failed to see if they actually worked or if his patients were stealing the drugs.
