MONROVIA – A 14-year-old boy called “Success”, who was seen travelling on foot to find his mother in Monrovia, has been rescued and handed over to the civil authorities in the township of Kpain in Lao Chiefdom, Meinpea-Mah District, Nimba County.
Wearing a campaign t-shirt of newly-elected Nimba County Senator Jeremiah Koung and his backer Senator Prince Johnson, the child had travelled from Sanniquellie and gone past the commercial city of Ganta when a curious lady came across him and took him to Kpain where he is currently in the care of the town chief and officials.

Since the United States Embassy near Monrovia raised concern over the election of Nimba County Senator Prince Y. Johnson as Chairman of the Committee on Defense, Intelligence and Veteran Affairs, public condemnation has increased with more calls to reconsider the decision.
One of such groups adding but not capitalizing on the U.S. Embassyâs reservations and expression is the Civil Society Human Rights Advocacy Platform, a conglomeration of civil society organizations advocating for human rights and justice with the high wish to see war crimes perpetrators prosecuted.
A statement issued by the group over the weekend indicates that besides concerns by the U.S. Embassy, the act by the Senate to elect a Senator Prince Johnson who has a war record breaches the United Nations Human Rights Protocols.

WHEN THE UNITED STATES Embassy in Monrovia issued a statement last week questioning the seriousness of the Liberian Senate over placing a warlord, Senator Prince Johnson, over the Committee on Defense and National Security, Deputy Information Minister for Public Affairs, took to Facebook in a bid to term the statement as hypocritical.
HE POSTED, “Simple Question: Is the PYJ who was chair on the Senate Cmtee. on Defense, Security and Intelligence during EJS time different from the PYJ elected today again?”

Monrovia – The Human Rights Advocacy Platform of Liberia, a network of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working on human rights and transitional justice issues in Liberia, is calling on the Liberian Senate to immediately withdraw the names of Prince Johnson and Cllr. Varney Sherman on the Senate committees on Defense and Intelligence and Judiciary, Human Rights and Petition, respectively.
Johnson, a warlord and senator of Nimba County, was last week elected to chair the committee on Defense and Security, while Sherman, senator of Grand Cape Mount County who was sanctioned by the United States Department of the Treasury for corruption involving judicial bribery, was elected unopposed the chair on the Senate committ
