An 18-year-old girl has been accused of conspiring to murder her former boyfriend who allegedly assaulted their baby.
It is alleged the teen tried to hire a prisoner to kill the 28-year-old man who was in custody at Kgosi Mampuru II Prison at the time.
According to the State, the father allegedly assaulted the four-month-old baby so badly that he had a broken femur and ribs.
The case against a teenage girl from Pretoria, who stands accused of conspiring to murder her former boyfriend after he allegedly assaulted their baby, has been postponed after her legal representative failed to appear in court.
Coetzee alleged that Thabethe was the aggressor - and that he acted in self-defence.
The State says Coetzee ran after Thabethe, who was then stabbed while lying helplessly on the ground.
Leon Coetzee, the man accused of murdering Thembinkosi Thabethe, following an uproar because of a WhatsApp message, said he acted in self-defence.
Coetzee, 55, appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate s Court on Wednesday, where he applied for bail.
It is alleged that, on 26 April, Coetzee stabbed Thabethe three times outside his home in Green Acres Estate in Montana, Pretoria.
According to the State, Thabethe went to Coetzee s house to confront his wife after a screengrab of a message addressed to her was shared on the estate s WhatsApp group.
The events which culminated in the murder of Thembinkosi Thabethe allegedly by a man who lived in the same estate were sparked by a WhatsApp message addressed to the accused's wife.

The Pretoria regional court has ruled that the Investigative Directorate (ID) can proceed with its fraud probe against former Eskom executive, France Hlakudi.
Hlakudi’s legal team had brought an application for the striking off of the fraud charges before his tax evasion matter proceeds to trial.
ID spokesperson Sindisiwe Seboka said the ruling by magistrate Adriaan Bekker on Thursday allows the ID, working with Sars, to proceed with the matter of alleged fraud and tax evasion of R30m against the former Eskom senior manager for capital contracts. The case returns to court on May 24.
The assault reportedly took place over the alleged theft of a bottle of sparkling water.
The Pretoria Magistrate s Court found the teacher had choked and kicked the child.
A Pretoria teacher has reportedly been found guilty of assaulting a Grade 6 pupil.
The Pretoria Magistrate s Court found Springvale Primary School teacher Annelise Boot, 54, guilty of assault on Wednesday, according to the Pretoria News.
Boot reportedly assaulted the pupil by choking, kicking and pushing her knee onto his chest while pulling his arms upwards.
The assault of the 12-year-old reportedly took place in February 2020 over the alleged theft of a bottle of sparkling water, reported Times Live, after another teacher called Boot to resolve the matter.
