Fineline Lighting Relights the Fire of Brixton Village Market UK – Brixton Village Market, snapped up over two years ago by new owners, Hondo Enterprises, has since undergone a series of renovation projects, with the most recent a sympathetic rejuvenation of the lighting system. The Brixton Market team turned to Bristol-based Fineline Lighting for a system that met the diverse needs of the space whilst maintaining the integrity of the Grade-II listed architecture.
Brixton Market is a traditional market by day and the place to go for foods from around the world. At night, the space transforms into a popular nightlife hub, drawing in the locals with restaurants, rooftop bars and a bar playing jazz music.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan will rule on plans for a 20-storey office tower by Adjaye Associates in Brixton, despite having previously said a local planning approval could stand
Lambeth Council narrowly voted last November to approve the controversial scheme, which would also see new shops, restaurants and community facilities developed at 20-24 Pope’s Road in south London.

Before Christmas, Khan wrote to Lambeth’s principal planner, Michael Cassidy, saying he was content for the local authority to determine the planning application, after Greater London Authority officers recommended that there was no sound reason to intervene.
A largely unpopular Brixton development approved by Lambeth Council might be overturned by the Mayor of London. Lambeth’s planning application committee voted four to three to approve Hondo Enterprises’ 20-storey office block in Pope’s Road in November. Hondo bought Market Row and Brixton Village in 2018, while the site concerned is home to Sports Direct. The decision was initially deferred after members described the scheme as “monstrous” and “mediocre” at a planning meeting in August. Hondo owner Taylor McWilliams, said the lack of office space in the area “is preventing growth, local jobs, and opportunities” and that businesses starting in Brixton “often have to move as they grow”.

Solicitors acting for a group campaigning against plans by David Adjaye for a 20-storey tower in the centre of Brixton have written to the secretary of state urging him to intervene.
They have also written to the mayor of London asking him to revoke his decision not to take over the planning process from Lambeth council, and alleging irregularities in the way he decided to leave the casting vote in local hands.
The building, designed by Adjaye Associates, has been revised more than once in the face of objections since plans were first submitted in April. In July Sadiq Khan said, in an initial judgement, that the proposals did not fully comply with the London Plan.
