JACKSON CO., Ore.– The Jackson County Board of Commissioners discussed fire safety and prevention during it’s weekly meeting today.
Commission Chair Rick Dyer says the county has asked to use AlertWildfire cameras, a wildfire reconnaissance system. The system is a consortium of three nearby universities, including the University of Oregon. Dyer says it would be another tool, adding to the Oregon Department of Forestry’s camera operations.
AlertWildfire says it’s aided firefighting efforts in over 1,500 wildfires in the past 5 years.

JACKSON CO., Ore.– Jackson County is working to get 65% of the population vaccinated, to open up more of our local economy. The state says each county must vaccinate at least 65 percent of residents 16 and older, to move into the lower covid restriction tier. It must also submit a vaccination equity plan, and have it approved by the state.
During it’s vaccination clinics, county administrator Danny Jordan said the county under-delivered to certain minority groups. He says migrant farm workers are among the groups of people not being given the same opportunity to be vaccinated. He said more changes need to be made to better serve those in need of the vaccine.

NBC5 News previously reported about Portland-area real estate company Fortify Holdings’ purchase of the Inn at the Commons on Riverside and the Ramada Inn on Biddle. The firm plans to turn dozens of units into apartments.
Sean Keys, the founder of Fortify Holdings, told the downtown Medford association Tuesday the majority of the work will take place over the next 24 months. Ten units will be renovated at a time.
