Share Lancaster University has teamed up with the BBC and the University of Surrey on a new ‘Prosperity Partnership’ to develop cutting-edge technologies that will allow future media experiences to be hyper-personalised by adapting to individual users’ interests, devices and accessibility requirements. The UK government has announced the £15 million BBC, Surrey and Lancaster Prosperity Partnership, which will develop technologies that will enable the UK creative industry to become a world leader in personalised media experiences. Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said: “As we build back better through innovation, we are putting the funding and structures in place so those at the top of their field – in business, research and academia – can develop world class products and technologies that could change all our lives for the better. The partnerships we are throwing our weight behind today all have innovation at their core.

07 April 2021 Imperial, Shell and Diamond Light Source are launching an EPSRC-funded Programme on materials and processes for the energy transition. The EPSRC Prosperity Partnership, known as InFUSE, will examine how technologies like batteries, electric vehicles, chemical production, and carbon capture and storage (CCS) can be improved by understanding interfaces in these systems, enhancing sustainability and enabling a transition to a green economy. Transitioning to renewable, sustainable energy needs us all to think a little differently. Professor Mary Ryan The partnership will involve collaborative research across the College including the Departments of Materials, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Earth Science and Engineering and Chemistry. It will form part of the Transition to Zero Pollution initiative at Imperial, which aims to inspire fundamental changes in areas such as the way materials are used in manufacturing and how we produce food and energy.

Researchers link to facilitate cheaper biologics 6th April 2021 The University of Edinburgh and FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies UK (FDB) are leading an £8.7 million, five-year research collaboration to develop more cost-effective ways to make modern antibody-based medicines. The partnership will use the latest analytical tools and engineering biology approaches to enable cost-effective manufacturing of biological drugs. FDB will work with the Universities of Edinburgh, Manchester and York to study and modify the commonly used Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell platform with the aim of making the manufacture of biological drugs easier and cheaper. The collaboration was announced by Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng as one of nine to receive major Prosperity Partnership funding, backed by a total joint investment of £75 million from business, academia and UK Research and Innovation.
