/ The Oregon Motel 8 and its nearby RV park was purchased by Klamath County to turn into transitional housing.
Klamath County has purchased a motel to turn into transitional housing. Officials are considering saving space in anticipation of wildfire season.
The county bought the Oregon Motel 8 and RV Park in Klamath Falls for $1.5 million dollars. It’s part of Project Turnkey, a statewide housing program that arose in response to the pandemic.
The property includes the 29-room motel and an RV park with 34 spaces. The county will work with local nonprofits to house unsheltered people in the motel.
County Commissioner Derrick DeGroot says leaders are also considering saving space just in case people need to evacuate their homes during this wildfire season.
GRANTS PASS, Ore. The city of Grants Pass is hoping to help locals in need with additional housing, by applying for an Oregon Community Foundation grant. It hopes to open a Project Turnkey facility after other ones are in the works in Ashland and Medford.
The Grants Pass City Council sent a letter to the Oregon Community Foundation asking for its support for the new development. This comes after the Oregon Legislature set aside $65 million for the purpose of acquiring hotels and operating them as congregate housing facilities.
In Medford, the Redwood Inn, a 47-room motel on Riverside Avenue, is getting an upgrade to help people affected by Covid and southern Oregon’s fires. It’s the same situation for a Super 8 Motel location in Ashland.

Bend Seeks Transitional Housing Options
The Bend City Council directed City staff to terminate a purchase and sale agreement with Old Mill Inn & Suites, located at 904 SE Third Street, and pursue alternative motel property options for providing temporary transitional housing for the community. The City was considering the purchase of the motel through Project Turnkey, a State-funded grant program. The direction from Council comes near the end of a feasibility period for the purchase and sale agreement, set to expire April 9. During this period, inspections by City staff and others determined the building would not be suitable for the project. With the termination of the agreement, Council has directed staff to begin pursuing and evaluating other
