In yet another sign of New York City’s failure to desegregate schools and provide educational equity in its schools, the number of Black and Latino students admitted into the city’s specialized high schools dropped to its lowest level in three years.
According to The New York Times, Only 9% of admission offers made by specialized elite high schools including Stuyvesant High School, Brooklyn Technical High School, and Bronx High School of Science went to Black and Latino students this year. A two percent drop from last year.

After a year in which the pandemic shined a harsh spotlight on the stark inequities in New York City’s school system, the city announced Thursday that, once again, only tiny numbers of Black and Latino students had been admitted into top public high schools. The numbers represent the latest signal that efforts to desegregate those schools while maintaining an admissions exam are failing.

BROOKLYN, NY A Brooklyn high school has been named the second best in the state and is among the top high schools in the country, according to a new ranking by U.S. News and World Report.
Brooklyn Technical High School ranked number two in the New York list of U.S. News Best High Schools for 2021, an annual ranking of how high schools compare at the national, state and local level.
