According to sources, Governor Koshyari, who is the chancellor of universities in the state, has accepted the resignations of Pradip Patil, who was the VC of Jalgaon-based Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University, and Vedala Rama Sastry, the VC of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University at Lonere inRaigad district.
The ABVP alleged that they had quit due to political interference by government . The ABVP believes this is due to frequent political overreach which undermined the authority and autonomy of vice chancellors, it said in a statement.
Of late, the education sector has been complaining about increasing government overreach and interference in universities in Maharashtra, the ABVP claimed.

MUMBAI: A 23-year-old man, who posed as a girl and made a south Mumbai businessman conduct a sexual act on video and later blackmailed him with it, was arrested by the city police on Thursday.
Accused Anup Singh, from Agra, chatted with the businessman as a ‘girl’, recorded the act, and threatened to make the video public if he did not pay up. Singh, an authorized agent of a bank’s customer service centre in Agra, demanded Rs 50,000, said the police. Singh allegedly agreed to take the money in instalmens of Rs 5,000. Officials said they have never heard of a case in the state where extortion is paid in instalments.

A team led by inspector Raja Bidkar, officers Pradip Patil and Rakesh Shinde probed the case after the businessman lodged a complaint. “We found that vouchers were bought with the money. The accused did not transfer money to any account but bought gift vouchers from a Kurla mall, giving the impression that the victim bought them,” said an officer.
