Shimla, December 16
Himachal is a small hilly State in terms of population, but our youth have always been on the front making sacrifices for the sake of the country, said Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur while presiding over the Vijay Divas function held at Annadale here today to mark the golden jubilee celebrations of the 1971 war with Pakistan.
“This is a day of glory for us and it is also a day to remember the sacrifices made by our great sons of the soil for the cause of the nation,” he said. It was on December 16, 1971, that India won the 13-day battle against Pakistan and over 93,000 soldiers surrendered before Commander of Indian Army Lt. Gen Jagjit Singh Arora. He added that brave soldiers of Himachal created a history of valour in the war.
