Maharashtra has added 62,097 new cases to its tally on Tuesday, Mumbai reported a slight dip, recording 7,214 new cases.Class 10 board exams were cancelled with the Education Minister taking to Twitter to make the announcement. At the state cabinet meeting, many ministers suggested the state push for a harder lockdown for another fortnight since the numbers were still rising. The decision has been left to CM Uddhav Thackeray. It will also be the first day when new grocery store timings kick in. Visits to the grocery store are now limited to just 4 hours in the morning. Jaslok Hospital
MUMBAI: As availability of Covid-19 ICU beds in the city dropped below 40 on Thursday morning, the BMC decided it was time to fully involve private hospitals in the fight against the rising second wave, and it began with Jaslok Hospital. By evening it had reversed its order to convert Jaslok into a full-fledged Covid facility following an assurance from the Pedder Road hospital to increase Covid beds to 150 from 58.
Sometime between the order and its reversal, municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal hinted that other major private hospitals might become complete Covid facilities depending on need. “We will keep options open depending upon the future situation,” he said.

Maharashtra on Thursday reported 61,695 fresh coronavirus cases and took the total tally to 36,39,855. On the other hand, 349 people succumbed in the past 24 hours and the death toll reached 59,153. There are 6,20,060 active cases in the state.Meanwhile, with 8,217 new cases in Mumbai reported on Thursday, the total number of cases reached 5,53,159. However, 49 more Mumbaikars lost their life due to the COVID-19 virus.Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressing the need for medical oxygen in the state for COVID treatment. MUMBAI: A new research paper in The Lancet has said one in three Covid-19 survivors in the United States developed a neurological or psychiatric condition within six months of the infection.
The study, which tracked electronic health records of nearly 2.4 lakh Covid patients mostly from the US, said anxiety was the most common post-Covid ailment that affected 17% of the survivors, followed by mood disorders (14%). A small percentage suffered brain hemorrhage and dementia, especially among patients who suffered severe Covid infections.
Pandemic-causing viruses have been associated with long-term neurological problems in some survivors. Studies have shown people born during the 1918 Spanish Flu had two- to three-fold risk of developing Parkinson’s-like symptoms than those born before 1888 or after 1924.
