Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council’s Committee on Papers Laid on the Table, Yelamanchili Venkata Babu Rajendra Prasad, and its members Illa Venkateswara Rao and Chikkala Ramachandra Rao, held a review meeting at the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (VMRDA) here on Wednesday to discuss a range of issues such as the city’s growth and rising pollution.
Metropolitan Commissioner P. Koteswara Rao gave a presentation on the jurisdiction, objectives, programmes being undertaken and economic issues to the committee. The committee gave suggestions for the measures to be taken for development of the region as Visakhapatnam was emerging as an industrial and financial capital of the State.

Rajya Sabha member V. Vijaya Sai Reddy on Friday launched the ‘Change Detection Software’ pilot project at the VMRDA office, which was initiated by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) to monitor land-use technology.
Mr. Vijaya Sai inquired about the functioning of the system. VMRDA Commissioner P. Koteswara Rao explained that the project was taken up in association with Environmental Systems Research Institute(ESRI). The lands belonging to VMRDA will be monitored by using DGPS survey data and Geographic Information System(GIS) software. The GIS-based applications can be used to detect encroachments and layout plan violations.

The NAD flyover is expected to be fully ready by January-end
The NAD flyover a showpiece project of the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) that is being built at an estimated outlay of ₹150 crore and was scheduled to be completed by 2020 is all set for an early 2021 launch despite several delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The upper rotary work on the flyover is fully complete and the lower rotary and beautification of the flyover is expected to be completed by January 31.

Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA & UD) Botcha Satyanarayana inspected the NAD flyover works here on Monday. Expressing optimism on completion of the flyover works by January-end, the Minister instructed the officials to speed up lower rotary works, apart from carrying the beautification, electrical and related works.

VMRDA Commissioner P. Koteswara Rao conducted a video-conference with ESRI to finalise the modalities of using GIS technology to map the lands belonging to VMRDA in the district, here on Thursday.
He said that VMRDA owns land parcels spread over the two districts of Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram.
“With constant urbanisation and changing topography, a practical tool to monitor the lands has been in the reckoning for the past few months. Keeping that in mind, VMRDA is moving towards high-end technologies and web applications using accurate DGPS survey data and GIS software to monitor changes in its lands real-time, at the mere click of a button,” he said.
