It's going to be a long road to a normal life for some of the 77 dogs taken from a property in Cape Breton in mid-April, 14 of whom are receiving treatment at the P.E.I. Humane Society.
Surrendered Cape Breton dogs could find their happily ever after on P.E.I.
Fourteen dogs will eventually be placed in new homes on Prince Edward Island after being surrendered from a property in Cape Breton.

We felt that it was really time to gauge folks perceptions of the act. We ve been using it now for several years, said Dr. Carolyn Sanford, veterinarian and P.E.I. s director of animal health and welfare. We wanted to see if it s meeting the needs, if it s doing what it needs to do and we just wanted to gain general people s opinions.

Animal advocates hope the results will lead to improvements for animal welfare and protection.

Humane Canada has been seeing a growth in farm sanctuaries across the country. An operation run by Brandy and Ryan Mooney and their family in Valleyfield is one of them, caring for a flock of more than 50 chickens, domestic ducks, a couple of goats, four pigs and three steers.
