For 10 years, America’s State Parks has encouraged people to get outside for a walk on Jan. 1, which they’ve dubbed First Day Hikes.
Last year, 85,000 people hiked a collective 176,366 miles across the country.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and other organizations like the Ice Age Trail Alliance have traditionally hosted guided First Day Hikes at parks and trails around the state, but the COVID-19 pandemic has led to many of those organized hikes being canceled this year.
