After all these months, when how Governor Cuomo and his inner circle addressed the COVID-19 pandemic in nursing homes has been defined by cover-ups, stonewalling, lies, and the like, and keeping in mind that the Cuomo administration is under federal investigation for its actions, the governor calls it “smart.”
TOPS Study: Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy in Postacute Settings is Beneficial
Physical therapy and occupational therapy provide functional benefits to most Medicare patients in postacute care settings, according to data from the “Therapy Outcomes in Post-Acute Care Settings” (TOPS) study.
The study, which uses data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, provides evidence that PT and OT has significant rehabilitative value across 1.4 million Medicare cases. Findings from the study have implications for postacute care payment system reforms and can serve as a baseline for future studies, APTA notes in a media release.

Rapp named administrator at Holzer Senior Care Center

GALLIPOLIS, Ohio Holzer Senior Care Center recently announced the appointment of Melissa Rapp, RN, LNHA, as administrator of the facility.
According to a news release from Holzer, Rapp obtained her Registered Nursing degree from West Virginia Institute of Technology, Beckley, West Virginia. In 2019, she received a bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Ashford University.
Rapp has over 24 years of experience in long-term care. Prior to joining Holzer, she worked at Extendicare for 16 years. She has also served as the Director of Nursing for Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center and Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. In April 2019, she began her career at Holzer Senior Care Center as the Director of Nursing.
