Richard Ochari’s journey began when he bought a single stage rice mill and a drying yard of 3,500m2. Today, he has expanded the drying yard to 5,600m2 which at its peak can be used to dry 20 metric tonnes at once every day.

Rice is increasingly becoming the staple food of majority of people. It is being considered the number one source of livelihood for the majority of farmers in eastern Uganda.
The increased production and improving technologies are making farmers gain more from their activities. However, intensive production is equally affecting the majority of smallholder farmers, who continue to lose a sizable amount of their harvest through postharvest losses.

The Centre plans to create a $6-billion corpus (₹43,500 crore) to strengthen logistics in animal husbandry, dairy and food processing sectors as part of its efforts to connect the farmgate to newer markets, a senior government official said today.

Innovative Canadian solutions to support sustainable agricultural practices

The federal government announced more than $55 million to support R&D for clean solutions in the energy, agricultural and resources sectors this month.
Announced Feb. 11 by François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, 20 clean technology companies across Canada will receive funding through Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), an independent federal foundation.
This funding will support small and medium-sized companies that are developing innovative solutions to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lessen the environmental impacts of conventional mining methods and support more sustainable agricultural practices.
