Bolton, along with Blackburn with Darwen, currently has one of the highest rates of infections in the country, with prime minister Boris Johnson confirming yesterday that although the government is not yet planning further lockdowns, the army will be deployed to help with testing. In response, Professor Donna Hall, chair of Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group, has said that there is now an urgent need for a surge in vaccinations.
The Bolton vaccination bus THE Bolton vaccination bus stay at Essa Academy has been extended due to popular demand. The roving vaccination site was due to end its stay at the site in Lever Edge Lane on Friday, May 14. However, it will now stay at the academy until Sunday, May 23. It will remain open 10am - 4pm every day, for people who live or work in the BL3 area, with no appointment needed. Only first doses of the vaccine -which is the Pfizer version - are be offered at the site. The extended stay comes as Bolton s coronavirus infection rate skyrocketed to become the highest in the country.

Celebrating the Muslim festival of Eid with his family on Thursday, Umar Mogra needed no reminder of the lethal capacity of Covid-19.
In February the virus swept through his family home in the narrow terraced streets of the Rumworth area of Bolton, infecting Umar, a 24-year-old pharmacology student at the University of Central Lancashire, and claiming the life of his 54-year-old father.
