Rivers launches new security outfit

The Rivers State Government has launched a new security outfit to help maintain security in the oil-rich state.
The security outfit, called C4i, was launched on Thursday in Port Harcourt by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
Mr Wike, in a series tweets, said the outfit comprises 400 police officers and 200 officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and that they have been trained in “relevant skills to ensure they carry out their duty efficiently”.
“We have made appreciable success in the area of security but we wouldn’t rest on our oars.

Police in Rivers State have rearrested a suspect, Kosi Tigidan, who was freed following the legal advice of DPP in the murder case trial of the late Paramount Ruler of Zakpo in Khana Local Government Area after two of his accomplices indicted him in their confessional statements. Mr Tigidan is alleged to be among two others identified as Dele Parako and Ledaa Deeyaah who were already sentenced to death by hanging by a Rivers State High Court Judge in 2019 for conspiring and killing the Zakpo King, late Chief Friday Nwigbariato in 2005.
A senior lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, Dr. Jones Ayuwo who was kidnapped three weeks ago has regained freedom.
Ayuwo, who lectures in the Department of Linguistics and Communications Studies, was kidnapped on his way from a function in his Local Government Area of Andoni, on February 21.
His release by the abductors comes one week after students of the University, especially his students at the Department of Linguistics and Communication appealed for his unconditional release and sought immediate action from the security agencies, as well as the State and the federal governments.

Man hacks neighbour to death over goat theft in Rivers

Police in Rivers State have arrested a man, Chibueze Ojiriome, in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area, for hacking to death a neighbour, Aleruchi Awuzuruike, who confronted him over goat theft.
An Ubima native, Gift Chimele, told
Vanguard: “The victim, on Thursday, went to the house of Ojiriome and confronted him for allegedly stealing and killing his goat.
“An argument ensued and the suspect pulled out a machete and cut Awuzuruike several times.”
The suspected killer was said to have been apprehended by a vigilante group’s members in Ubima before handing him over to the Police in the community.
