A familiar face will return to Port Huron City Council. Domingo “Rico” Ruiz has been named to fill a vacancy on the council. Of the nine candidates who applied to fill the vacancy left by Lisa Beedon, Ruiz received the highest amount of votes. Beedon resigned from the council at the end of last year following her election to the St. Clair County Board of Commissioners. Ruiz served most recently on City Council in 2018 and chose not to run for re-election. His partial term will expire in 2022.

Port Huron City Council meets tonight in a special session meeting to name a new council person. Lisa Beedon resigned from Port Huron City Council at the end of last year following her election to the St. Clair County Board of Commissioners. Port Huron City Council members are expected to get an update on the city’s fire station situation during this evening’s city council meeting. Last February, city council members approved an agreement with Redstone Architects to study and make recommendations on the future use of the city’s three fire stations. Tonight, council is to receive and file the report form Redstone which will outline the current conditions and needs to the city’s fire stations as well as the feasibility of upgrading or replacing them. A second reading and enactment of a rezoning ordinance is expected tonight for a vacant parcel in the 2700 block of 10th avenue. Also tonight, city council is expected to approve a bid of nearly $28-thousand from Coldspring Granite Company of Minnesota for 40 new columbaria at the Allied Veterans Cemetery. Port Huron City Council will meet at 7pm tonight at the municipal office center.

Port Huron Mayor Pauline Repp says there will soon be a new member of Port Huron City Council. Council will need to fill a vacancy left by Lisa Beedon, who resigned at the end of 2020 after being elected to the county commission. The city will be accepting letters of interest and resumes from the public through Tuesday, January 26. Those interested will be interviewed during a special session meeting on Monday, February 1st. Each applicant will be allowed four minutes for an introduction and Repp says council plans to vote on appointing a new member that night.

Members of the Port Huron City Council will meet for their first regular session meeting of the new year, albeit one member short. Members tonight will formally accept the resignation of Lisa Beedon, who was elected to a position on the St. Clair County Board of Commissioners in November. Beedon’s resignation from city council was effective December 31st, with council needing to name a replacement. On Monday city council will also hold a first reading of an ordinance to rezone a parcel of land formerly home to the county’s day treatment-night watch program. A group of properties in the 27-hundred block of 10th avenue will be rezoned from single family residential to multi-family residential. Port Huron City Council will meet at 7pm tonight at the city’s municipal office center.

The Port Huron City Council meets tonight in a regular session meeting. Council members are expected to accept a bid of approximately $37,000 dollars for the purchase of new workout equipment and updates to the city’s workout room. Council is also set to renew a five-year service agreement with Ti-Hospital EMS to provide emergency and non-emergency ambulance service in the city.
Several grant applications are also scheduled to be submitted tonight. The City is seeking up to $25,000 for the purchase of ice skating equipment at McMorran Place and $50,000 to help with the design and construction of a bike trail in Sanborn park. Both grant applications will be submitted to the Ralph C. Wilson Junior Foundation. Port Huron City Council meets tonight at 7pm at the Municipal Office Center.
